Cinnamon begins filming for "menipuLATE"

16 Jun – The cast and crew of upcoming indie flick "menipuLATE" is halfway through filming as they wrapped up a day's work around the areas of Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI) last Saturday, 14 June. Two scenes were shot at the TTDI park and one more at the Spices Of Asia restaurant in the Jalan Dato' Sulaiman area of TTDI.

Only two of the cast members were required to be present for the day's filming, signalling the absence of the majority of the cast but both Claudia Low and Tuan Faisal took comfortable stage to the day's work. Low and Faisal play two lovebirds who find new faith in each other after a disconcerting experience with their exes.
The shoot also marks Cinnamon's first take as a nondescript member of the cast, appearing as Ayu's (Claudia Low) favourite stuffed toy. Cinnamon will appear in several scenes throughout the film, including Ayu and Faris' (Tuan Faisal) first date and a bedroom scene with Ayu and her girlfriends.
"Today's scheduling has been great so far. We had a delay of only half an hour and got exactly everything we wanted… everything was perfect," said director Ariff Aris at wrap-up after seven hours of filming.

The first-time director relishes the fact that so far, 90 per cent of the film has been the way as he wanted it to be. "There were a few hiccups here and there but everything is going pretty good I'd say," said Ariff, adding that one of the biggest challenges in creating the movie is the unpredictable weather, next to constant scheduling conflicts.
"menipuLATE" will focus more on the artistic value of a film and strive to break the norm of commercialism. The crew has brainstormed on different ways to film a movie and it is said that the movie will feature unique art direction and concept as well as treatment.

Next weekend, the crew will be shooting some of the film's final scenes in Kuala Lumpur, including one with a cameo appearance by local rock group Pop Shuvit and of course, more of Cinnamon. This will be the crew's biggest shoot yet with 90 per cent of the cast and crew poised to attend, located at Rahsia Bistro in KL. According to Ariff, the band will have a minor speaking role and their scene involves them picking up some girls at the location. Unfortunately, the band will not be contributing any songs to the soundtrack, he explained.

Cinema Online also clears the air with director Ariff on the purported love scenes in the film, to which he commented, "There is a love scene but I don't want it to be a 'juicy' love scene. I believe we don't need scenes of people holding hands to show love."
Filming for "menipuLATE" is to complete by the end of June 2008.
